Self drive day boats on the historic Bridgewater Canal


Why not hire you own boat for the day and enjoy the countryside whilst sailing along the beautiful Bridgewater Canal, relaxed and stress-free.

The children will love it too, there is so much to see, swans, ducks and lots of other birds and wildlife. 


Stop off at one of the many country pubs for lunch there are lots to choose from all family friendly with great menus. Take a picnic or a barbecue and head towards the stunning Pennington flash. Or head into Castlefield in the city centre with its waterside bars and restaurants.

Can we bring alcohol onboard? 

Yes alcohol is permitted onboard however the person in charge of the boat not necessarily the hirer along with another member of crew must remain sober whilst navigating . The drink drive law is the same on the canal as on the road.


Are dogs allowed?

Yes dogs are allowed onboard at your own risk and responsibility.


My child is only 2 is she/he classed as a passenger?

Yes all children over the age of one by law are classed as passengers and have to be included in the numbers.


What happens if i get back late?

A fee of £30.00 per hour is payable if the boat is returned later than 4.30pm unless it is due to a canal closure i.e Barton Aqueduct swinging.


What is the speed limit?

The speed limit is 4mph and must be adhered to at all times.


Are the boats easy to steer?

Yes our boats are simple to navigate and tuition will be given.


Do I need experience and a driving license to steer?

You need no experience or licence to drive any of our boats. We give a full demonstration on your arrival and answer any questions you may have. 


Are the boats insured?

All our vessels are insured. We require a refundable breakage deposit of £100.00 before you go onboard .


We dont want to steer the boat?

No problem we have skippers that can do the steering for you but this will be an extra cost.


Is there car parking?

Yes we have parking here at the marina.


Do I have to operate locks?

No there are no locks along the Bridgewater Canal.


Do you have life jackets?

Yes we have buoyancy jackets if needed and all our boats have life rings onboard.
